『往復朗読 2020』 は、青柳菜摘と佐藤朋子によるプロジェクト〈往復朗読〉より、2020年の記録をまとめた、日めくりカレンダー形式のアーティストブックです。
2020年4月、緊急事態宣言直後に始まった〈往復朗読〉は、離れた場所にいる二人が、その日ごとに選んだ物語やテキストを読み合い、Twitter（現X）／Periscopeを通してライブ配信を行う試みでした。
本書では、当時の記録を「日付」という時間軸に沿って再構成し、声の往復とともに過ぎていった2020年の日々を、あらためて読み返すことを試みています。

｜〈往復朗読〉について
〈往復朗読〉とは、青柳菜摘と佐藤朋子による、物語やテキストの断片をその日ごとに選び、読み語るプロジェクトです。
2020年4月20日、パンデミックによる緊急事態宣言が発出された直後に開始され、互いに自分がいる場所から、その日限りの出来事として朗読を行い、ライブ配信として記録されてきました。
この実践は、単なる朗読の記録ではなく、「交える（交換、交通、交歓、交遊）」ことの意味を問い直す試みでもあります。言葉を介して応答する〈声〉をタイムラインに留めていくことで、芸術と日常、時間と記憶の関係性をあらためて編み直していきます。

1990年東京都生まれ。2016年東京藝術大学大学院映像研究科メディア映像専攻修了。 映像メディアを用いた同時代芸術のアーティストとして、フィールドワークやリサーチをもとに、プロジェクトベースに主題を立て作品を発表している。作者自身の経験を表現する方法論として、観察、記録、物語、詩文を手がかりにタイムベースト・メディアの可能性を探究している。詩集『そだつのをやめる』（thoasa、2022年）が第28回中原中也賞を受賞。「コ本や honkbooks」主宰。

佐藤朋子｜Tomoko SATO
1990年長野県生まれ。2018年東京藝術大学大学院映像研究科メディア映像専攻修了。都市や地域に潜在する出来事や記憶の層を起点に、リサーチに基づいた芸術実践を行っている。語りやレクチャーを媒介に、文献や証言、場の痕跡などの断片を編み合わせ、複数の時間軸が交差する構造を扱う。近年の活動に《オバケ東京のためのインデックス》（シアターコモンズ、2021–）ほか。令和5年度ポーラ美術振興財団在外研修員として台湾と韓国にて研修。

A Circle of Reading 2020 ― A Tear-Off Calendar–Format Artist Book

A Circle of Reading 2020 is a tear-off calendar–format artist book that brings together the practices carried out in 2020 as part of A Circle of Reading, a project by Natsumi Aoyagi and Tomoko Sato.
A Circle of Reading began in April 2020, immediately after the declaration of a state of emergency in Japan. From separate locations, the two artists selected literary texts and stories on a daily basis and read them aloud to one another, broadcasting the sessions live via Twitter (now X) / Periscope.
This book reconstructs those records along the timeline of dates, inviting readers to revisit the days of 2020 as they unfolded through the back-and-forth exchange of voices.

| About A Circle of Reading

“A Circle of Reading” is an online performance art project by two Japanese artists, Natsumi Aoyagi and Tomoko Sato, in which they select and narrate fragments of stories and texts each day. The project began on April 20, 2020, shortly after the declaration of a state of emergency due to the COVID-19 pandemic. From their respective locations, they have been live-streaming these daily, one-time-only events through social media platforms such as Twitter (now X) or Periscope. From the pandemic through to the present day, they have continued to stream these readings on an intermittent basis as a sort of life practice. The attempt to revisit the origins of a key characteristic of language—wordplay—serves as a practice to reconsider the meaning of “interchange” (as intersection, interrelation, interaction, interplay, etc.) across separate locations. By documenting and preserving the voices that respond to this ongoing process in the form of a timeline, the project reexamines the relationship between art and life.

Natsumi AOYAGI
Born in Tokyo in 1990. Completed the MFA Program in Media Arts at the Graduate School of Film and New Media, Tokyo University of the Arts, in 2016.
As a contemporary artist who works with visual media, Aoyagi presents project-based thematic works grounded in fieldwork and research. She explores the possibilities of time-based media as a methodology for expressing her own experiences, using observation, documentation, narrative, and poetry as footholds. Her collection of poetry, Sodatsu no wo Yameru [Done Being Nurtured] (thoasa, 2022), won the 28th Nakahara Chuya Prize. She is one of the leaders of the “kohonya honkbooks” practitioner art collective.

Tomoko SATO
Born in Nagano in 1990. Completed the MFA Program in Media Arts at the Graduate School of Film and New Media, Tokyo University of the Arts, in 2018.
er artistic practice is research-based and begins with events and layers of memory embedded in cities and regions. Using narration and lecture-based formats, she weaves together fragments such as documents, testimonies, and traces of place, addressing structures in which multiple timelines intersect. Her recent works include Index for Obake Tokyo (Theatre Commons, 2021–). She was a recipient of the Pola Art Foundation Overseas Research Program in 2023, conducting research in Taiwan and South Korea.
